It was a weekend of mixed fortunes at the Nürburgring for Oregon Team, in the fourth of six double-header rounds of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. The squad led by Jerry Canevisio and Giorgio Testa claimed three podium finishes, once again confirming its place among the front-runners.
In the Pro class, Patrik Fraboni and Silas Rytter returned to the podium by securing second place in Race 2, after finishing fourth in Saturday’s Race 1. They collected more valuable points but lost the championship lead and now sit just three points behind the top spot. Following a difficult opening qualifying session, in which Fraboni set the 11th-fastest time overall, the Oregon Team pairing produced an excellent recovery drive in the first race to finish just outside the podium positions. Things went even better in Race 2, with Rytter qualifying third in class and fifth overall in Q2. He and Fraboni then completed another impressive comeback, with the Italian moving into second place during the closing stages, shortly before a red flag brought the race to a definitive halt with around seven minutes remaining.
A fifth-place finish in Race 1 was the best result for Rogerio Grotta and Alfio Andrea Spina, although it did not fully reflect their performance. The Italian immediately proved to be one of the fastest drivers on track, setting the fifth-fastest time overall and the second-fastest in the Pro class during the opening qualifying session. The Brazilian finished slightly further back in the second session, recording the ninth-fastest time in class. In Saturday’s first race, both delivered an excellent performance that enabled them to secure sixth place overall and fifth in the Pro class. Race 2 brought a very different outcome, however, as Grotta was forced to retire early due to a technical problem.
The pairing of Pietro Perolini and Josef Knopp also performed well. After setting the eighth-fastest time overall and the fifth-fastest in the Pro-Am class during the opening qualifying session, Knopp was held up by the chaos that unfolded immediately after the start of Race 1 and lost ground. Following the pit stops, Perolini mounted a strong recovery, eventually crossing the finish line 12th overall and fifth in class. After qualifying third in Pro-Am in Q2, Perolini made a good start in the second race and climbed as high as sixth overall. Knopp continued to push after the pit stops, but the race’s premature conclusion under the red flag prevented him from improving further. He nevertheless finished third in class, a result that enabled him and Perolini to return to the podium.
Second place in the Lamborghini Cup in Race 1 allowed Adalberto Baptista, who later finished eighth in Race 2, to retain the class lead with a five-point advantage over his closest rival.
The next round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe will take place in Barcelona over the weekend of 3–4 October.
