Oregon Team looks forward to smooth Spa weekend

Oregon Team is set to continue its 2018 European Le Mans Series endeavor this weekend (September 22nd and 23rd) in Belgium. The series will line-up for the fifth and penultimate round of the season on one of Europe’s most famous and demanding racetracks, Spa-Francorchamps.

At the Belgian venue, where the most crucial variable will be again the weather, the team’s Norma M30 LMP3 race car will be shared by the same full-time trio seen before this season. Young racer Riccardo Ponzio, at his first year in the series, will be partnering Colombian Andrés Méndez and quick “Bronze” racer Clément Mateu.

The crew of Oregon Team, led by Jerry Canevisio and Giorgio Testa, already shown that they have the potential to do well both in qualifying and in the races. At the Ardennes venue, they will try to impress again at the highest level of European endurance racing. However, the drivers and team worked extremely well throughout the year too, as proven by that excellent pace that was consistently put up in the previous rounds.

The Cremosano-based Italian squad is back from the fifth round of the Clio Cup Italia series held last weekend at Imola, where they brought on track ”Due”, who managed to end race 1 in the mid-pack, and also fielded a car for the journalists taking part in the Clio Cup Press League by Renault Italia. Emiliano Perucca Orfei of Automoto.it did very well, finishing ninth overall and leading the class, while Guido Medacertainly did not disappoint. The well-known MotoGP commentator put up a lively performance on-track and back at the pits. He scored the 14thplace in race 2 to cap off a positive and constantly improving run over the weekend.

Back to Spa-Francorchamps, the goal will be to bring home a great result to keep up the positive momentum. The first verdicts will come tomorrow with the running of Practice and Bronze Testing. Another free Practice session is scheduled on Saturday, followed by Qualifying. The 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will start at 12:30 on Sunday with live video streaming coverage on www.europeanlemansseries.com.
