Oregon Team clinches in Barcelona the GT Open Drivers and Team titles with Hites-Pulcini (Lamborghini)

Oregon Team takes it all in Spain with the Lamborghinis. In the seventh and last round of the International GT Open in Barcelona, the squad of Jerry Canevisio and Giorgio Testa clinched the Team and Drivers titles with Benjamin Hites and Leonardo Pulcini, as well as took the last 2022 victory with the other duo Kevin Gilardoni, Glenn van Berlo.

The Italian team ended a stunning season, claiming seven victories. Four with Hites and Pulcini, who dominated the Estoril opener to finish first also in Spa and Red Bull Ring. Three with Gilardoni and van Berlo, the last one secured at the Montmeló circuit in the final race of the year.

After claiming last season the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe with Gilardoni and Pulcini, Oregon Team doubled at the very first experience in the GT Open series and in a GT3 series.

We took the title at our first season in GT3 and in a high-level championship like the GT Open, fighting with both our crews“, Jerry Canevisio commented. “At the end we topped the Drivers and Team standings.”

In Saturday’s Race 1, Gilardoni and van Berlo were slowed in the first stages due to a technical issue, and then they paid a 5-second penalty due to an early contact and finished ninth. A result that prevented them to aim for the title in the second race. Viceversa Pulcini and Hites took a third place, extending their gap to eight points over the McLaren rivals Joe Osborne and Nick Moss.

In Race 2, on Sunday, van Berlo started from the second row to maintain his third position despite an early safety car. Hites moved back 12th from P9 but recovered. The ten-second handicap time then let the McLaren of Osborne to rejoin the track after the pit-stop ahead of Pulcini. However, the Italian finished fifth and secured the title. A lat pass from Gilardoni to the Ralf Bohn’s Porsche with 19 minutes to go, let the Oregon Team driver and his teammate van Berlo to celebrate on the top spot.
