Oregon Team set for 2017 ELMS opener

It is finally go time for Oregon Team. The Italian squad will make its debut in the European Le Mans Series for the opening round of the 6-event season, the 4 Hours of Silverstone. The team, led by Jerry Canevisio and Giorgio Testa, is set to campaign a brand-new Norma M30 LMP3 racecar. The championship will then move to Monza, Spielberg, Le Castellet, Spa and Portimão.

Coming from the series’ preseason test session held at the end of March at Monza, the Italian squad is ready for the new challenge with the combination of Como-based Davide Roda (Bronze) and two Silver drivers, 20-year-old Roman Dario Capitanio and 23-year-old Colombian Andrés Mendez. They will line-up against some tough opposition featuring 16 more contenders for a total of 36 cars at the start including LMP2 and GTE.

The round at Silverstone will definitely be a great test in terms of the full season, but the goal is to do well straight away. The 5.9 kilometers of the Northamptonshire venue bring great memories to the Oregon squad including the double win secured in the 2015 Renault Sports Trophy, when Capitanio claimed two second placed and then went on to secure the Prestige and Endurance titles.

“It’s finally time to go back on-track again – said Jerry Canevisio – We are lining-up in the UK with the sole goal of completing the whole race distance which will also be the target for the early part of the season. We need to log as many laps as possible and our drivers need the same thing”.

The weekend will feature a tight schedule beginning with the first practice session on Thursday. The second session will be starting on Friday morning followed by qualifying in the afternoon. The race will then take-off at 14:30 (all times UK).
