Oregon Team aims for home success in 4 Hours of Monza

The Oregon Team is aiming for some top results again this weekend  (May 12th and 13th) as the Italian squad will be on-track for the second round of the 2018 European Le Mans Series. On their home turf, the team led by Jerry Canevisio and Giorgio Testa will feature once again the well-sorted driving trio of Italian Riccardo Ponzio, Colombian Andrés Méndez and French “Bronze” racer Clément Mateu sharing stints aboard the Oregon-prepared Norma M30 LMP3.

After the positive 2018 debut of Paul Ricard, where the team finished 11th in class in a constant improvement, the only Italian round of the calendar will be an ultimate test. This time, Ponzio will also rely on good track knowledge. On the other hand, Mateu showed great chemistry at his debut with the French racecar, while Méndez can certainly count on a lot of experience, being in his second year in the series.

“In France, all three drivers went very well. In addition, as opposed to Paul Ricard, Ponzio knows Monza really well – commented Canevisio – Weather will definitely be a variable, but we still feel very confident”.

The 4-Hour Monza ELMS will benefit from live TV coverage on Sportitalia, and it will also be fully streamed live on europeanlemansseries.com. The race will start at 12.30 on Sunday, while qualifying will take place on Saturday starting at 2 pm, right after the second free practice session. The “Bronze test” and the first free practice are scheduled for Friday.

The Oregon Team will be back on-track for the second time in less than a week having taken part in the second round of the Clio Cup Italia championship held last weekend at Misano. The team welcomed 26-year-old Brescia-based racer Andrea Baiguera while a second car, wearing the Renault Italia colors, featured two journalists taking part in the Clio Cup Press League: Andrea Brambilla of Ruote in Pista (who ended up 13th out of 23 contenders) and Autosprint’s Alberto Sabbatini.
